CHAPEL HILL, NORTH CAROLINA

New Basement Bathroom: new windows, new contemporary plumbing fixtures, maple vanity, lighting
Renovated Basement Hall: daylight borrowed from Guest Room with new frosted door

Like most basements in North Carolina, this basement was damp and dark; cold in the winter and with condensation on the glass in the summer. Design solution included:

  1. new windows in Bath

  2. replace dark metal windows and dark stained hollow core doors with white painted solid core doors and clad wood windows, which were white on the interior, dark on the exterior

  3. insulating and sealing the walls, ceilings and floors

  4. replacing dark wood paneling with white painted gypsum wallboard

  5. borrowing light from a sunny Guest Room by adding frosted glass to the door to add light to the windowless Hall.

  6. Large mirror in the Bathroom

  7. Light glass tile

  8. Maple Vanity
